Recover offline social relationships Limit technology use Reduce excessive media consumption (music, games, movies, TV shows) Enjoy the days as they used to be
1 - Using the 1997 calendar for the year 2025, and moving on to the following years (basis for the release of music, movies, TV shows, games and technologies) 2 - Music: listen to the album after the release date, being able to listen to older albums 3 - Movies: watch within 1 month after the movie is released (average time a movie was on display), being able to watch older movies on weekends (days when it was common to go to the video store) 4 - Series: watch the episode only on the day it aired 5 - Games: play the game after the release date, being able to play older games 6 - Technologies: limit as much as possible the use of technologies as they were at the time (so much so that this site was developed in HTML 4.0) 7 - Payments: whenever possible I will use the bank, and not apps
1 - In the past, music was listened to on the radio/tape/CD. Radio will be used at times when more programs are broadcast than music, to avoid the consumption of music that is different from the time. Since acquiring tapes and CDs is difficult and/or expensive nowadays, the exception in this case will be through Spotify. 2 - For movies, the exception will be the use of streaming, but applying the time limit of 1 month after the movie is released or watching older movies on the weekends. 3 - For series, the exception will also be the use of streaming, but also limited to watching the episode on the day of its release, not being able to watch it on another day or binge-watching. 4 - Since acquiring retro consoles is very expensive nowadays, for games the exception will be through the use of emulators. 5 - With the issue of technologies, it is the same thing. In addition to being expensive, it is not feasible for me to have a modern TV/PC for my family and an old one for myself. Therefore, to bring the experience closer, at home I use a PC to emulate hardware from that time and use the operating system from that time. 6 - Given that I need current technology for my work, current technology will be used when it is strictly necessary. In addition, for the use of the services described in the previous items, current technology will be limited, but with good sense so as not to negatively impact my work and my relationships.
The calendars coincide exactly every 28 years. To make the experience more realistic, I would like the days to coincide for the releases. In this way, the calendar that coincides with 2025 is the one from 1997, the one from 1998 will coincide with 2026, and so on.
This is a personal experience. I try to simulate the daily life of that time as much as possible, but I am aware that I cannot let this harm my work or my relationships, so some exceptions/adaptations have to be made. But this does not harm the core of the experience, which is to value offline moments more, limit the use of technology and consume media in a more moderate way, with a background of the time. Although it is a personal project, it would be great to have a community to share it with. If you are interested, feel free to get in touch: matheus.arsego@yahoo.com.
